Dengue and its symptoms and cure
Dengue fever, also known as breakbone fever, is a mosquito-borne disease that can lead to a critical flu-like ailment. It is caused by four different viruses and spread by Aedesmosquitoes.
Dengue, which is also called as “Dandaka Jwara” in Ayurveda is very well narrated in the famous Ancient text of Ayurveda, “Madhavanidanam” also known as “Rogavinishti”. According to it, Dengue fever is caused through a particular species of mosquito. Dengue virus spreads by the bite of mosquito carrying the dengue fever virus and thus transfusing the virus into the blood stream which further starts multiplying itself rapidly.
The mosquito flourishes during rainy seasons but can breed in water-filled flowerpots, plastic bags, and cans year-round. Even one mosquito bite can cause the disease. It is a non-contagious disease which cannot be passed directly from one person to another.
Dengue goes by other names also, including “breakbone fever” or “dandy fever“. Victims of dengue often have contortions due to the intense pain in the joints, muscles, and bones, hence the name breakbone fever.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), dengue virus is prevalent throughout the tropics and subtropics (subtropical areas). Outbreaks have occurred recently in the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Cuba, and Central America. Cases have also been imported via tourists returning from areas with widespread dengue, including Tahiti, Singapore, the South Pacific, including the Philippines, Southeast Asia, the West Indies, India, and the Middle East
